This Data Use Policy expands on our Privacy Policy to explicitly detail exactly how data moves between your local machine and our cloud infrastructure.

1. Local Parsing Engine

Unlike web-based Scanners, Turnitin Connect is a native application. When you use the "Chat with document" feature, our proprietary local indexing engine builds a semantic vector database directly on your hard drive. This index never leaves your computer.

2. Data In Transit

All network calls between the application and our servers use TLS 1.3 encryption. When you initiate a plagiarism scan or AI generation, your payload is encrypted end-to-end until it hits our stateless router.

3. Third-Party Model Providers

We partner with leading AI providers under strict Commercial Data Protection agreements. Prompts sent to model providers are never retained for model training or fine-tuning.

4. Telemetry Data

Minimal, anonymous usage statistics (e.g., scan duration, error rates) are logged to maintain service uptime. No personal document content is included in telemetry logs.
