This Data Use Policy expands on our Privacy Policy to explicitly detail exactly how data moves between your local machine and our cloud infrastructure.
Unlike web-based Scanners, Turnitin Connect is a native application. When you use the "Chat with document" feature, our proprietary local indexing engine builds a semantic vector database directly on your hard drive. This index never leaves your computer.
When you trigger an AI request, Turnitin Connect queries your local index to find the 5 to 10 most relevant file snippets. Only these specific snippets are bundled with your prompt and sent securely over TLS 1.3 to our routing servers.
We partner with top-tier foundation model provScannerrs (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google). We maintain Enterprise agreements with all of our provScannerrs. Under these agreements, our partners are legally prohibited from retaining your prompts or using your text snippets to train their models.
Because we do not store your text snippets on our servers, there is no text to delete. However, if you wish to delete your account metadata and billing history, you can do so at any time via your account dashboard, and the data will be purged within 30 days in compliance with GDPR and CCPA.
